Introducing the latest plans at The Atrium- bringing Padel to Reading.
We're delighted to be able to officially confirm that in 2025, The Atrium Health Club will be expanding its facilities to include padel courts.
Padel is the fastest-growing sport globally and is making its way to our club, offering members a fresh and dynamic way to stay active and have fun! There are currently not many courts in Reading so we're excited to bring this sport to the area.
What is padel?
Padel is an accessible and exciting sport that combines elements of tennis and squash.
Played primarily in doubles, it takes place on an enclosed court that’s smaller than a traditional tennis court, with glass walls that allow players to hit the ball off them, much like in squash. You play with a solid racket (without strings) and  a ball similar to a tennis ball, but with slightly less pressure.
The game is easy to pick up but offers plenty of challenges for players to improve their skills. It’s fast, social, and perfect for people of all ages and skill levels.
Some fun padel stats:
Padel tennis is the fastest-growing sport globally with over 25 million players in 90+ countries
It’s now the second most popular sport in Spain with 6 million players; beating tennis and second only to football
Rallies last 60-70% longer than in tennis – making it a thrilling spectator sport
30% of Padel players are women compared to just 15% in tennis
Padel is a low-risk sport in terms of injury, with fewer injuries reported compared to other racket sports like tennis
What to expect at The Atrium
Â
People will be able to join the Padel Club as a member, or pay as you go. The Atrium Health Club members will benefit from preferential rates on the courts.
We'll build 2 courts initially, on some of the overflow car-park space. They will be flood-lit but un-covered. We aim to introduce more, covered courts at a later date.
